The Ministry of Education has announced a temporary suspension of marking the Grade 05 Scholarship Examination answer scripts due to an ongoing investigation into a potential exam paper leak.
Education Ministry Secretary, Thilaka Jayasundara, stated that marking will remain on hold until the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) completes its inquiry into the incident. A final decision regarding the continuation of the marking process will be made after reviewing the preliminary reports from both the Examination Department and the CID.
Jayasundara also mentioned that if the investigation confirms that the question paper was leaked, there is a possibility of holding the Scholarship Examination again. However, such a decision will depend entirely on the findings of the current investigation.
The President and the Minister of Education have instructed officials from the Ministry and the Examination Department to act based on the recommendations and conclusions of the two investigative bodies.
Jayasundara further emphasized that strict actions will be taken against those responsible for the alleged leak once the probe is completed.
The Grade 05 Scholarship Examination, held on Sunday, September 15, became the subject of controversy when questions similar to those on Paper 1 were reportedly shared at a tuition class a few days before the exam and circulated on social media. Several concerned parents alerted the Education Ministry, leading to the launch of investigations by the Examination Department and CID.
