The Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka has announced the continuation of its program to provide school shoes to selected students across the country in 2025. This initiative, which began in 2015, aims to support students from underprivileged backgrounds, including those studying in Pirivena and Seela Matha institutions.
Under this program, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal presented by the Prime Minister in her capacity as the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education. Eligible students will receive a gift voucher worth Rs. 3,000 to purchase a pair of shoes.
The initiative is set to benefit the following groups:
- 650,000 students from 6,000 schools with fewer than 250 students each.
- 140,000 students attending estate schools that do not fall under the category of schools with fewer than 250 students.
- 2,300 students from 28 special-needs schools.
- 30,000 student monks and lay students from selected Pirivena and Seela Matha institutions.
