Election Commission Grants Special Leave for Voting in Presidential Election| The Election Commission has issued an official statement outlining the provisions for granting leave to public and private sector employees for voting in the upcoming presidential election. The guidelines focus on ensuring that employees have adequate time to exercise their right to vote, based on their proximity to polling stations.
Employees whose workplaces are close to the polling station are eligible for special leave without pay for a minimum period of four hours, should they find it necessary.
For those whose polling station is 40 kilometers or less from the workplace, half a day’s leave will be provided. If the distance is between 40 and 100 kilometers, employees are entitled to one full day of leave.
Furthermore, employees whose polling stations are between 100 and 150 kilometers away will receive one and a half days’ leave, while those traveling more than 150 kilometers will be granted two days of leave.
The announcement also highlighted that some voters in remote areas of the island may take up to three days to travel to and from their polling stations. In such cases, additional leave may be granted to accommodate their needs.
