Buddhist and Pali University Invites Applications for Foreign Candidates - 2024/2025

The Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka is now accepting applications from eligible foreign candidates, including Bhikkhus and lay students, for the Bachelor of Arts (Internal) degree for the academic year 2024/2025. The deadline for applications is 8th November 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Bachelor of Arts degree, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. GCE Advanced Level (A/L) examination with passes in Pali, Buddhism, and any other subject.
  2. An equivalent international qualification to the GCE A/L, recognized by relevant authorities.
  3. A Diploma in Buddhist Studies, accredited by the Buddhist and Pali University or an equivalent qualification.
  4. Any other qualification approved by the Senate of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka.

Note: Applicants without proficiency in English and Pali/Sanskrit will be required to complete a one-year Intensive Course before enrolling in the degree program.

Application forms can be downloaded from the official website: www.bpu.ac.lk. Completed applications should be submitted along with required documents before 8th November 2024 via registered post or email to the Assistant Registrar (Academic and Student Services) at the following address:

Course and Fee Details

The program offers two categories:

  1. Intensive Course in English, Pali/Sanskrit + Bachelor of Arts (General) (Duration: 1 year + 3 years)
    • Total fee: $1135
  2. Bachelor of Arts (General) (Duration: 3 years)
    • Total fee: $695

Subjects Offered: Students can choose from a variety of subjects, including Pali, Sanskrit, Buddhist Philosophy, Buddhist Culture, Comparative Philosophy, Archaeology, and several languages such as Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and more.

Additional Information

  • Hostel facilities are available for both Bhikkhus and lay students.
  • Courses are available free of charge for certificate programs in languages such as Hindi, Tamil, and Japanese.
  • The university provides free counseling courses to students.
