The Ministry of Education has announced its initiative to grant licenses for books that will be selected as appropriate for school libraries across the country. The Educational Publication Advisory Board is now accepting submissions of printed books and scripts from heads of publication institutions and authors. These works can be in Sinhala, Tamil, or English and must align with specific subject areas.
Subject Areas Include:
- Language & Literature: Novels, short stories, and poems in Sinhala, Tamil, English, and other foreign languages.
- Religion: Content on Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Catholicism, and Islam.
- Children’s Stories
- Science & Technology
- Information Technology
- Aesthetics
- Sociology
- Other Books with Literary Value
- Translated Books
Authors and publishers are encouraged to submit their works for approval, ensuring they comply with the set subject categories. The licenses granted will be valid for five years from the date of publication, and the Ministry has emphasized that books already approved may also be updated and resubmitted.
In addition, the Ministry notes that no license will be issued for books printed in parallel with school textbooks. Books and scripts can be handed over directly to the Educational Publication Advisory Board located at the Ministry of Education’s headquarters.
