The University of Sri Jayewardenepura’s Faculty of Graduate Studies is now accepting applications for the 2024 intake of the Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (MA in TESL). This program, conducted by the Department of English and Linguistics, is designed for professionals looking to enhance their qualifications in the field of English Language Teaching.

Program Overview:

The MA in TESL is a two-year program (SLQF Level 10) starting in September 2024, covering key areas such as:

Structure of English
Psycholinguistics
Sociolinguistics
Second Language Teaching Pedagogy
Testing and Assessment in ESL
Curriculum & Materials Development in ESL
Second Language Research Methods

Entry Requirements:

Candidates must have one of the following qualifications:

A four-year Bachelor’s degree in English or TESL (SLQF 6)
A three-year Bachelor’s degree with English as a subject (SLQF 5)
A Bachelor’s degree in English medium (SLQF 5 or 6)
Any other degree acceptable to the university senate (SLQF 5 or 6)

Program Details:

Duration: 2 years (Year 1: Taught program; Year 2: Taught program & Independent research)
Mode of Delivery: Blended Learning (On-campus and online sessions on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
Attendance: A minimum of 80% attendance is required.
Course Fee: LKR 220,000/- (Payable in two installments)
- First Installment: LKR 150,000/-
- Second Installment: LKR 70,000/-
