The government has announced a financial allowance of Rs. 6,000 to assist parents who are unable to afford school stationery and equipment for their children.
The allowance will be distributed to children of families under the “Aswesuma” program, children with disabled parents, those residing in orphanages, and students facing hardships due to special circumstances.
Chief Government Whip, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, confirmed that the initiative will be implemented starting from the upcoming school term. He added that the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal, which was presented by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya during yesterday’s (December 2) Cabinet meeting.
“This decision underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring equal educational opportunities for all children, regardless of their socio-economic background,” stated Minister Jayatissa.
